Today, the job market has changed drastically. Gone are the days when you needed to have a 4-year degree to land a high-paying job.
Nowadays, it’s quite easy to find well-paying jobs that do not require you to have a degree/diploma.
And, that will be the focus of this post – I shall tell you of short term courses with high salaries in Kenya.
Short term courses with high salaries in Kenya – best paying short term courses in Kenya
To be clear, the short-term courses below are courses that have a study duration of six months or less.
Web design and development
As a web developer, you can opt to either freelance or apply for a full-time web designer/developer job.
If you opt to take the freelance route, you can charge from as little as Ksh. 13,000 to as much Ksh. 200,000 per website.
This will be dependent on the type of website you’re creating and your client.
For instance, you would charge higher for an e-commerce store than for a landing page.
On the other hand, if you were to get a full-time job as a web designer/developer, you can earn anywhere from Ksh. 30,000 to upwards of Ksh. 200,000 depending on your experience and the company you’re working for.
Now, here are some basic skills that you will require to become good at website development:
- Creating websites using content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress
- HTML
- CSS
- JavaScript
Once you perfect these, you can then advance to more advanced libraries and frameworks such as jQuery, Bootstrap, Vue.js, React, and NodeJS.
Usually, most online web design courses take 1-6 months to complete depending on your learning speed.
Digital Marketing
Digital marketing usually involves promoting businesses using digital channels such as social media, search engines, emails, and video platforms.
With the world transitioning to a fully digital landscape, more and more businesses are looking for digital marketers to run their digital marketing campaigns.
SEE: Is digital marketing marketable in Kenya?
On average, digital marketers earn around Ksh. 30,000/month for entry-level roles. This amount can go to upwards of Ksh. 150,000 per month for more experienced digital marketers in bigger companies.
Currently, the supply of digital marketers does not meet their demand.
In other words, this is the best time to get into the field.
Just so you know, our digital marketing course takes 4 months to complete and it costs Ksh. 60,000

Videography and Video Editing
On average, professional videographers charge Ksh.20,000-30,000 per day to shoot event videos such as weddings.
And, this figure rises to around 40,000 when creating promotional/marketing videos for businesses.
As you can see, the pay is quite good.
In addition, if you are good at video editing, you can freelance on the side – there are tons of online video editing jobs where you can make 200 to 1,000+ USD per project.
Having said that, we offer a 3-month videography and video editing course for just Ksh. 45,000.
What sets our course apart from the rest is our learn-by-doing approach where we teach students through real-world projects.
In addition, we hook our students for internships and jobs with some big-name studios that we have partnered with.
Truck driving (trailer driving)
If you are passionate about travelling or huge vehicles, then this might be a good course for you.
To be more specific, I’m talking about long-distance truck driving.
These are the guys who transport petroleum products and other commodities between Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and the larger East Africa region.
The responsibility and safety concerns associated with operating large trucks for long distances results in companies prioritizing certified truck drivers.
This results in high salaries and allowances for the few available qualified drivers as these companies compete for them.
On average, a truck driver operating between Mombasa and Kisumu can get an allowance of Ksh. 10,000 per trip.
Usually, the truck driving course takes one month to complete and it costs around Ksh. 40,000-50,000.
Graphics design
This is another short-term course with high salaries that has seen its demand in Kenya rise very fast in recent years.
This has primarily been driven by the need for graphics such as business cards, flyers, posters, logos, and branded t-shirts among others by companies.
As a graphic designer, you can earn Ksh. 30,000–80,000 per month depending on the company you’re working at.
In addition, you can also earn some extra cash by freelancing your skills online.
Just so you know, a graphics design course takes 3 months to complete.
Course requirements: Have basic computer skills and a minimum of D- in KCSE.
Our graphics design course will get you started in this field.
Wi-Fi and security system Installations
When I talk about security systems, I’m talking about installing CCTV systems, electric fences, and alarm systems.
These courses take one to three months to complete depending on the institution you enroll in.
The good thing about the demand for these skills is that it’s rising by the day – more people and businesses are installing Wi-Fi and security systems.
As such, it can be quite hard to sleep hungry with these skills.
With these skills, you can earn between Ksh. 30,000 and 60,000 per month depending on your locality.
Social media management
Today, nearly everyone is active on two or more social media platforms.
Businesses and celebrities are not being left behind.
However, since most of them are not in a position to manage their accounts, they opt to employ professional social media managers.
These managers are responsible for updating the accounts/pages, interacting with followers, moderating comments, and promoting products and services.
Their pay usually varies depending on the number of account followers and the purpose of the management.
For instance, some managers are hired to increase followers while others are hired to increase engagements and so on.
On average, you can earn Ksh. 15,000-50,000 per month for every account you manage.
To get you started, you can have a look at our social media training course.
